How to Rest in God’s Heart

Members Menu

The aim of this prayer exercise is not Bible study or an intellectual meaning about God’s words in Scripture.   It’s a way to discipline our thoughts so we come to know the Lord through faith.  It is a knowing of the Lord through love………..  A prayer of the heart and not of the head by gazing lovingly at Him. The Lord calls me to rest in him and he wants his words to rest in me.

If you remain in me and my words remain in you
You may ask for whatever you please
And you will get it.
It is to the glory of my Father that you should bear much fruit.  ( Jn 15:7)

Resting in God’s heart to contemplate His Word begins with us asking the Holy Spirit to prompt us or to randomly choose a text.

Read the verse or text very slowly then stop and put the Bible down…….
Now rest in the presence of the Lord knowing that he loves you……..

After a few minutes read slowly the same text or verse again ……….

Rest again in the Lord knowing that he loves you………..

After five minutes read slowly the same text or verse again allowing yourself to absorb the words deep within you knowing that Jesus loves you and is speaking to you in the power of his spirit

Rest again in the silence of Jesus’ heart and be attentive to his presence for a few more minutes and then bring closure to the prayer by praying an Our Father

Prayer Comment

Learning to still the mind as I gaze upon Jesus prepares me to be infused with his love and spiritual gifts. Listening to God begins with me resting in his Heart.

“ I hear the voice of my beloved” ( Song of Songs 2:8)

In this resting time of stillness our spiritual inner ear becomes more sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.  We now begin to hear the voice of the beloved.  He can now guide us how to proclaim his healing words for our body soul and spirit.
