The spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for he has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free, to proclaim the Lord’s year of favour! Jesus rolled up the scroll gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue was fixed on him. Then he began to speak to them, “This text is been fulfilled today even as you listen.”

 Introduction

The Way of Hope. Proclaiming Jesus to others can be very challenging and when I experienced the Holy Spirit calling me to share the good news of Jesus setting me free from my spiritual burdens and mended my broken heart I felt very inadequate. But the Holy Spirit kept prompting me to read the words in the Acts of the Apostles to not be concerned about what I was going to say, as the Holy Spirit would give me the words. I started to grow in confidence from God’s Word and I began to believe in my mission.

I would have preferred to live a hidden life and not profess my faith to others as I felt my healing was of a very personal nature. I didn’t think it was necessary to go out to the whole world and tell them about my experiences. But the spirit kept reminding me that so many needed to hear my story and be filled with hope that Jesus was there for them too. I was to begin my way of sharing by referring to Jesus and his hidden life in Nazareth until his early thirties. How he grew in stature and wisdom under the guidance of Mary and Joseph. Even though he wanted to go about his Father’s business in the Temple at twelve years of age he obeyed and came home to acquire the skills to be a carpenter by learning from Joseph. In this humble profession God was quietly teaching him how to build his Kingdom here on earth.

Jesus knew God was with him but he still had to learn to grow in the ways of the spirit and I too began with the Holy Spirit instructing me how to evangelise. In the Book of Isaiah it mentions how the spirit of Yahweh would breathe forth supernatural gifts to help us and so I came to realise that Jesus wanted to give me these same gifts as tools of grace. How I needed them to build his Kingdom and bring the Good News to others.

On him the spirit of Yahweh rests, A spirit of wisdom and insight, A spirit of counsel and power, A spirit of knowledge and fear of Yahweh (the fear of Yahweh is his breadth) Isaiah 11:2 “I realised that if a carpenter goes to work without his tools, no one will accept him. Similarly, without the gifts of the Holy Spirit given by God for the work of evangelisation then my sharing would not produce abundant fruit.
